Field Trip for Grown Ups: Snow Science

Field Trip for Grown Ups: Snow Science

Why should kids have all the fun? It’s the grown-ups’ turn to take a field trip!

Every snowstorm tells a story. As winter unfolds, layers of snow build up, creating a record of past weather and important habitat for plants and animals. Join us outside at Grey Rocks to explore the science of snow. We’ll dig into the snowpack, learn how to identify different snow layers, and discover how snow helps wildlife survive the winter. Along the way, you’ll gain new insight into the winter landscape and uncover the hidden stories beneath your feet.

This hands-on, outdoor program is a great chance to deepen your understanding of winter ecology, sharpen your observation skills, and enjoy time outside.

What to expect:

Snow-covered trails
Two hours in the outdoors
Dress for the weather (boots and snow pants recommended) and come ready to explore!
