Academy Award Winner Ernest Thompson to Keynote 603 Writers’ Conference, Igniting Inspiration and Sharing Literary Wisdom
The New Hampshire Writers’ Project (NHWP) announces Ernest Thompson, the acclaimed author, actor, playwright, filmmaker, and songwriter as the keynote speaker for the 603 Writers’ Conference on Saturday, June 8, 2024. Known for his Oscar-winning screenplay adaptation of the iconic film On Golden Pond, Thompson brings a wealth of experience and an impressive literary legacy to this year’s conference, which will take place from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the SNHU Banquet Hall in Manchester.
“Selecting a keynote speaker who could genuinely impact our community was paramount,” said Masheri Chappelle, Chair of the NH Writers’ Project. “Thompson’s remarkable journey from Broadway to Hollywood and his deep connections to New Hampshire embody the enlightening wisdom of an ideal Keynote we strive to offer our community of writers.”
Thompson’s influence extends beyond accolades, including an Oscar, two Golden Globes, and numerous nominations. His commitment to nurturing over 200 writers through workshops, one-on-one mentorship, and his Rescind Recidivism prison writing program showcases his dedication to fostering new talent and giving back to the community.
The 603 Writers’ Conference will feature Thompson in various capacities: delivering the keynote address, participating in a soulful discussion about his three "Hs” — Heart, Humor, and Hope — the abiding approach he takes with everything he writes, and joining his publisher, Curtis Key, in the Meaningful Literary Project workshop. Additionally, he will be a special guest judge for NHWP’s famed Pitch Party. Thompson will offer insight and encouragement to aspiring writers throughout the day.
Thompson’s ongoing projects, including a sequel to On Golden Pond and another Broadway revival of the play, highlight his enduring creativity and impact on the arts. His novel The Book of Maps is currently available for purchase, with his next work, Out Clause, to be released in 2025.
This year’s conference promises to be an unforgettable, informative, and motivational journey suitable for writers and dreamers alike. Join us in celebrating the power of storytelling and the enduring legacy of one of New Hampshire’s most beloved literary figures.
