A Walk In The Woods

Sometimes, to make a surprising discovery, all you've got to do is strap on your snowshoes and step outside. That was the case when correspondent Sean Hurley ventured out to some familiar trails this past week:

I'm out in the Smarts Brook Woods, I think on the Yellow Jacket Trail. But what's interesting about a lot of the summer walking trails like this - people hike around this all through the summer - is that even during the winter people continue to walk around it. I thought the whole thing was just released into the wilderness when the snow came, maybe some skiers came up here...But one, two days after a storm the trail is pretty much packed down again by walkers, skiers, snowshoers, dogs and it's ready to go again.

Sean Hurley lives in Thornton with his wife Lois and his son Sam. An award-winning playwright and radio journalist, his fictional “Atoms, Motion & the Void” podcast has aired nationally on NPR and Sirius & XM Satellite radio. When he isn't writing stories or performing on stage, he likes to run in the White Mountains. He can be reached at shurley@nhpr.org.
