U.S. Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut suffered a stroke on Saturday afternoon while watching his son play hockey.

Murphy was taken to a local hospital after complaining of numbness in his arm, and was transferred to Johns Hopkins for monitoring and treatment.

In a statement on Sunday afternoon, his Chief of Staff Alison Herwitt described him as "awake and alert", and said they are "optimistic he will make a full recovery".
