2 Shootings In 24 Hours

LULU GARCIA-NAVARRO, HOST:

And now back to our main story. It has been a very heavy morning. The country is reeling from two mass shootings that have taken the lives of 29 people. This is what we know so far. Earlier today in Dayton, Ohio, nine people were killed and dozens wounded. Many were lining up outside a bar in a popular nightlife area downtown. The suspected shooter was killed by police. Yesterday morning, another gunman killed 20 people and injured 26 in El Paso, Texas, in a shopping area. That suspect, a white male, is now in custody. Police have said they are investigating if he is responsible for a document posted online before the attack. In this manifesto, the writer expressed anti-Hispanic sentiments and white nationalist ideology. In a tweet yesterday afternoon, President Donald Trump called the El Paso shooting tragic and an act of cowardice. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
