Top Democrat Chuck Schumer Opposes Iran Nuclear Deal

As President Obama heads to Martha’s Vineyard for a vacation, he’s dealing with the news that Senator Chuck Schumer of New York will oppose the Iran nuclear deal.

Schumer is the most prominent Democrat so far to speak out against the deal, which limits Iran’s ability to produce a nuclear weapon in exchange for lifting economic sanctions. Congress is expected to vote on the deal next month and President Obama has promised to veto any resolution rejecting the agreement.

Here & Now‘s Peter O’Dowd speaks with New York Times reporter and author Jonathan Weisman about what Schumer’s dissent means for the future of the deal.
