Kurt began his radio career at 16 as weekend disc jockey at KOLS-AM/KKMA-FM (now KMYZ) in Pryor, Okla. He gradually began doing news work at his home town radio station. Kurt studied journalism at Oklahoma State University, serving two terms as managing editor of "The Daily O'Collegian." He returned to his radio roots while at Oklahoma State, working first as a part-time news producer, then as Morning Edition host at KOSU. Kurt left the station in 1990 returning to Pryor to be a part of a new business, ViaGrafix, that developed computer training videos. He eventually sold his business to attend seminary at The Iliff School of Theology in Denver and Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, Okla. He served as minister of communications for St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City for five years before starting his own media business, Discuss Communications LLC.

Ben Philpott covers politics and policy for KUT 90.5 FM. He has been covering state politics and dozens of other topics for the station since 2002. He's been recognized for outstanding radio journalism by the Radio and Television News Directors Association, Public Radio News Directors Incorporated, the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters and twice by the Houston Press Club as Radio Journalist of the Year. Before moving to Texas, he worked in public radio in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, Ala., and at several television stations in Alabama and Tennessee. Born in New York City and raised in Chattanooga, Tenn., Philpott graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in broadcast journalism.

Abby is a former NHPR News intern. She graduated in May, 2013, from the University of New Hampshire with a degree in English/Journalism and a minor in Environmental Conservation Studies. Included in her studies was a study abroad program at the American College of Thessaloniki in Greece. Abby has worked at YCN, a television station covering the Upper Valley, writing news stories, is a freelance writer for Foster’s Daily Democrat, and was a staff writer at the UNH student-run newspaper. She has also volunteered as a reading and writing tutor for elementary school children and is a part-time caretaker for two young boys. Abby lives in Wilmot, NH.

Ella is a former NHPR News intern. She graduated in May 2013 from the University of New Hampshire with a B.A. in History and minors in Writing and Asian Studies. Her studies abroad were at St. Andrews University in Scotland. While at UNH, Ella served as editor-in-chief, design editor and contributing writer for Main Street Magazine, a publication that won UNH’s Best Student Publication award for 2013. Outside of UNH, Ella contributed articles to the Union Leader as a freelance reporter and was an editorial intern at the Littleton Courier. She was the recipient of a competitive grant for a project that explored the history of Russian-Jewish immigration to the United States and related family history. Ella lives in Portsmouth.

Jennifer is a reporter for Michigan Radio's State of Opportunity project, which looks at kids from low-income families and what it takes to get them ahead. She previously covered arts and culture for the station, and was one of the lead reporters on the award-winning education series Rebuilding Detroit Schools. Prior to working at Michigan Radio, Jennifer lived in New York where she was a producer at WFUV, an NPR station in the Bronx.

Anne Mostue’s work in radio journalism has taken her from black bear dens in the North Woods of Maine to the streets of Seoul and San Juan.

Shelley Kofler is managing editor/senior reporter forKERANews. She is an award-winning reporter and television producer who has served asKERAnews director and the Austin bureau chief and legislative reporter for North Texas ABC affiliateWFAA-TV. Her expertise on legislative policy issues includes school finance, foster care and transportation; and her stories on the overmedication of foster children captured the attention of state officials who strengthened laws for the use of psychotropic drugs.
