In this 3rd annual event sponsored by the Cohase Chamber of Commerce, filmmakers from across New Hampshire and Vermont have 48 hours to write, produce and edit a 7-minute film for public screening and the chance for the title of " Best Film". FOOTNOTE, NOMINEE FOR BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM, BETHLEHEM
Thursday Sept. 20, 7:30 PM, Colonial Theatre, Bethlehem. Presented as part of the Bethlehem Hebrew Congregation's Summer Cultural Series. Eliezer and Uriel Shkolnik are both eccentric professors, who have dedicated their lives to their work in Talmudic Studies. The father, Eliezer, is a stubborn purist who fears the establishment and has never been recognized for his work. While his son, Uriel, is an up-and-coming star in the field, who appears to feed on accolades, endlessly seeking recognition.
Then one day, the tables turn. When Eliezer learns that he is to be awarded the Israel Prize, the most valuable honor for scholarship in the country, his vanity and desperate need for validation are exposed. His son Uriel, meanwhile, is thrilled to see his father's achievements finally recognized but, in a darkly funny twist, is forced to choose between the advancement of his own career and his father's. Will he sabotage his father's glory?

PUBLIC INFORMATION SESSION REGARDING MITTERSILL IMPROVEMENTS, FRANCONIA
Friday Sept. 21, 6:30 PM, Brookside Learning Center, Cannon Mountain Ski Area, adjacent to Peabody Base Lodge at Exit 34C off Route 93. The NH Division of Parks and Recreation is holding this public information session about proposed snow-making, lift access and trail improvements to the Mittersill side of Cannon Mountain. The public comment period on this project is from Sept. 20 through Oct. 12. Written comments may be submitted on comment cards available at the public sessions, or via email to cannoncomments@dred.state.nh.us.
CONTRA DANCE, FRANCONIA
Friday Sept. 21, 7:30 PM and monthly on third Fridays through May, Town Hall, Franconia. Contra dancing brings joy and laughter and friends into your life. It is fun beyond words. Contra dancing is done to live music - guitar and fiddle and other instruments, playing jigs and reels. A caller teaches each dance, and tells you what to do. You just need to know how to walk. No need to bring a partner. If you've never tried contra dancing, you owe it to yourself to give this native New England dance form a try. Bring your neighbors and friends. Sunday Sept. 23, 5 K walk or 5 K speed walk starts at 9 AM, 8K run starts at 9:30 AM, race day registration begins at 8AM at Dr. John Bagonzi Community Building, 9 High Street, Woodsville. NORTHERN PASS AND THE WHITE MOUNTAIN NATIONAL FOREST INFORMATION MEETING, EASTON
Sunday Sept. 23, 3-5 PM, Easton Town Hall, Route 116, Easton. Easton Conservation Commission will sponsor an information meeting on Northern Pass and the White Mountain National Forest. Northern Pass is seeking a Special Use Permit from the Forest Service to cross the National Scenic Appalachian Trail and a ten-mile route through the WMNF that includes Easton. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR 2ND ANNUAL GATHERING OF THE JACK O LANTERNS, LITTLETON
Last year on a whim we created this event and it was awesome. We had about 300 Jack O Lanterns on the river rocks behind the bike shop and on the covered bridge. This year we are making it bigger and better with more help from others (including you hopefully). We hope to have 500-700 Jack O Lanterns along the riverwalk, covered bridge and on the river rocks. The Littleton Chamber of Commerce has created a full weekend of events called "Littleton's Harvest Festival", which starts on Saturday Ocotber 27th and the finale is the Gathering of the Jack O Lanterns and haunted riverwalk event on Sunday the 28th from dusk til 8 pm. We need volunteers to help set up, haunt the riverwalk, have pumpkin carving parties, or help clean up! This is a grassroots, organic event, and there is no money involved so contributions of pumpkins, Jack O Lanterns or votive candles (not tea lights, they burn out too quick), or volunteering your time is greatly appreciated.
