Nashua was the first New Hampshire city to adopt a mask ordinance, in May 2020. Since then, other communities, including several of the state’s college towns, have passed similar mandates - most with fines attached for failing to comply.

The CDC says "cloth face coverings are a critical tool in the fight against COVID-19 that could reduce the spread of the disease, particularly when used universally within communities."

Everyone in New Hampshire should wear a face mask when social distancing cannot be maintained, indoors and outdoors, according to the statewide mask mandate, which has no penalties for noncompliance.

This map shows where local mask mandates are currently in place across New Hampshire, and where local penalties may apply for noncompliance. We’ll update this map as other communities adopt local mandates.
