PUBLIC HEARING ON PERMIT FOR BETHLEHEM LANDFILL

Thursday January 16 6 PM Profile School, Bethlehem. The landfill is up for a title five permit. The public is invited to come to the hearing with any questions including the environmental impact of a landfill on a major aquifer. GATHERING TO STOP TAR SANDS OIL IN THE NORTH COUNTRY, JEFFERSON

Saturday January 18 5 PM Upstairs at 37 Hyfield Lane, Jefferson. Meet UNH student activist Kathryn Thomson and organizer Brett Chamberlin, who will travel the full Portland-Montreal pipeline January 14-21, meeting and exploring the communities and ecosystems endangered by the risk of a tar sand spill. Sponsored by the NWF Campus Ecology Fellowship on Stopping the Expansion of Dirty Energy, they plan to document their journey to give voice to those at risk and raise awareness of the tar sands oil issue. HAVERHILL CORNER LIBRARY BOOK CLUB FOR WRITERS

Thursday January 23 7 PM. The discussion will feature short stories by Geore Saunders and David Foster Wallace. Copies of "Mister Squish" by Wallace and "In Persuasion Nation" and "The Semplica Girl Diaries" by Saunders are available at the library. Discussion is free and open to the public. Book Club for Writers is a fiction discussion program that meets four times a year. Discussions are open to all and focus particularly on questions of craft and technique.
