Democratic Lawmakers in the New Hampshire House today failed to override two vetoes handed down last year by Republican Governor Chris Sununu. The votes complete action by lawmakers on Sununu's 2019 vetoes.
In 2019, Sununu vetoed 57 bills, a record that far exceeded the number of bills vetoed by any other New Hampshire governor.
Of the vetoes, 55 were upheld.
The latest Sununu vetoes to be sustained by lawmakers would have made it easier for public school teachers to gain tenure protection and would have removed New Hampshire from the controversial interstate voter verification program known as Crosscheck.

That Kansas-based initiative was suspended amid lawsuits and erroneous false-positives.
The only 2019 Sununu vetoes lawmakers did override were a bill that repealed New Hampshire's death penalty; and a bill that loosened standards for doctors prescribing medical marijuana - it eliminated a three-month time frame before a provider could prescribe therapeutic cannabis.
