Ski Industry Group Says Mountains Brought $1.1 Billion In 2012-13

A new report from a ski industry trade group estimates that last year the ski industry contributed $1.1 billion dollars to the New Hampshire economy.

That number, which Ski New Hampshire calculates every few years, is the highest yet recorded by the group. The economic impact study was conducted by a pair of Plymouth State University professors, and commissioned by Ski NH.

Karl Stone with Ski New Hampshire says that is partially due to inflation, but also a general trend of growth. In terms of skier visits, eight of the ten best years have occurred in the past decade.

“The ski areas are doing a great job in New Hampshire, we’re growing our business, and I think that’s reflected in these numbers as well,” says Stone.

New Hampshire’s ski resorts attracted the highest number of skiers in 2010-2011, but no study was done that year. So far this year the industry is on track to draw about the same number of skiers to the state as last year.
