Restored Bronze Eagle Returns To Memorial Bridge

A heavy bronze eagle, foliage-adorned state and national seals, and other items that sat atop the old Memorial Bridge for nearly 100 years will soon regain their perch above the Piscataqua.

Jennifer Zorn, the bridge project’s public outreach coordinator, says items were restored in Watertown, Massachusetts, at a cost of $300,000.

Their installation will get underway Friday evening. "There's a fair amount of prep work," Zorn says, "as far as drilling holes and putting brackets into the steel beans of the bridge."

Archer Western Contractors began installation in Portsmouth Sunday night. The process will likely take three days.
