Couple Ditches Their Own Wedding To Help Irma Response

MARY LOUISE KELLY, HOST:

Good morning. I'm Mary Louise Kelly. Lauren Durham was all set to get married this past weekend. She had the white dress ready. But Durham and her fiance are in the Air National Guard. And when Hurricane Irma hit, they were both deployed to help. So they got married anyway, in front of rubber rescue boats. Durham wore fatigues - no poofy dress, no makeup, no cake either. But MREs, meals ready to eat, have Skittles. So you know, she said, we're pretty excited. It's MORNING EDITION. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
