The Gallery at WREN Presents: Vistas and Visions
On view March 7 - April 25 at 2011 Main Street, Bethlehem
BETHLEHEM—The Gallery at WREN is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibition, Vistas and Visions. The exhibit features new landscape paintings from Kristine Lingle and Kim Druker Stockwell.
Vistas and Visions celebrates the beauty of the northern landscape. Kristine’s atmospheric landscapes and Kim’s bold studies of light and form highlight the beauty of the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This exhibition is sure to evoke calm, peace, and contemplation for the viewer.
Both artists have long attachments to the Bethlehem area. Kristine was the coordinator for the Gallery at WREN from 2007 to 2012, and has taught art classes for over 20 years at the Littleton Studio School. “The beauty of the northern landscape has long compelled me to paint my impressions of it,” says Kristine. “The ethereal sky, atmospheric perspective, textures and colors of foliage, grasses and snow, lucid reflections on water - places I return to again and again in my mind, as well as with my camera and easel. Northern light is ever-changing, sometimes elusive, often breathtaking, especially at dawn and dusk when the quality of light is saturated with color. I attempt to absorb and distill these moments and interpret them on canvas.”
Kim has spent her entire life coming to Franconia, NH; first with her grandparents to Mittersill, and eventually with her husband and kids to Bethlehem. She is captivated by the White Mountains: their shape and their changing colors depending on the season and sky. Kim’s paintings express her fascination with the color, light and form found in nature. Her work reflects a physical process of building up paint and rubbing it off, leaving traces of various colors that become the background for landscapes and floral settings. The result creates a complexity of space and a unique quality of color that cannot not be found in a tube.
“This exhibition celebrates not only the natural beauty of the North Country, but the different ways we see it,” says Executive Director Julia Webb. “Gallery visitors will enjoy comparing and contrasting Kristine and Kim’s visions of our area. Vistas and Visions reminds us of how lucky we are to be in such a beautiful place.”
The exhibition will be on display from Friday, March 7, through Friday, April 25, at the Gallery at WREN, 2011 Main Street in Bethlehem. An opening reception will be held on Friday, March 7, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, providing the public an opportunity to tour the exhibit and meet the artists. All are welcome at this free event.
The Gallery at WREN is open Monday – Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
