Starry Night Hike at West Rattlesnake
Starry Night Hike at West Rattlesnake
Join LRCC’s Peter Laskin for a short nighttime hike up West Rattlesnake and (weather permitting) a chance to look at the stars, planets, and constellations populating the sky this time of year. We’ll talk about what’s going on in the winter sky, threats to our ability to see the stars, and what they mean for humans and animals. Come prepared to hike at night in cold temperatures: participants should bring extra layers, a headlamp or flashlight (red light mode preferred but not required), and microspikes or snowshoes. SLA can provide snowshoes for up to six participants. If the weather does not cooperate for viewing, we will still enjoy an easy hike and get to experience one of Squam’s most popular trails at a less typical time of day.
Please pack water and any hiking snacks you may want. Participants should also bring a headlamp or a flashlight as it is a night hike. Participants should also be sure to have appropriate attire and layering for winter hiking, extra layers, and comfortable water resistant hiking shoes as well as snowshoes and/or microspikes depending on conditions. The SLA can provide snowshoes & microspikes for up to six participants.
This program is open to everyone. Any children must be accompanied by an adult.
