Saving Seeds Through the Seasons

Saving Seeds Through the Seasons

Seed saving requires forethought and planning if you want to intentionally harvest seed to save for the next year’s growing season. Join Alison Magill, seed saver and founder of the Piscataqua Seed Project, for a hands-on experience as we explore the gardens at Bedrock. We’ll identify the different stages of seed ripening, how to collect seeds, and learn the steps to properly process seed for winter storage. Each participant will take home a collection of seeds from Bedrock Gardens to sow in their own gardens, with a special focus on planting for pollinators.

About the Piscataqua Seed Project
The Piscataqua Seed Project is a community-based organization whose mission is to empower people to grow food locally and save heirloom seeds for future generations. They encourage the sharing of skills and knowledge and believe that a healthy food system is critical for creating resilient communities and connecting us to our cultural heritage.

About the Teacher
Alison Magill is an herbalist, ecologist, educator, flower essence practitioner and seed saver who loves all things botanical. Connecting with the healing power of plant allies is a lifelong study and passion. In addition to starting the Piscataqua Seed Project, she also founded the Well Cultivated Life and the Cultivated Life Community where she offers online or in-person consultations, courses, and workshops on how to improve your health and wellness through plants. She believes the most important thing any of us can do to promote a healthy lifestyle is to spend more time in the company of plants, whether spending time outside, tending to plants, eating plants, or using botanicals as medicine.
