Josa Jazz Concert Series: Cercie Miller & Dominique Eade

Josa Jazz Concert Series: Cercie Miller & Dominique Eade

CERCIE MILLER
Alto saxophonist Cercie Miller has been a dynamic presence on Boston’s jazz scene since 1986, when she founded the Cercie Miller Jazz Quartet and the avant-garde jazz collective, Your Neighborhood Saxophone Quartet.

The Jazz Times calls her saxophone style “spirited and spunky” while the BostonGlobe describes her solos as “torrid” and “scorching.”

Jazz critic, Jack Bowers says in review of her new CD, Blue Vistas, “No, Cercie Miller isn’t another aspiring Jazz singer…she’s a saxophonist, and a damn good one too. …Miller has a sound all her own, and a keen, articulate point of view to go with it. In reading the liners, I found that Miller and I have at least one thing in common — we both grew up in Washington, D.C. As far as I can see, that’s where we part company. I got the looks, she got the talent. (Actually, she got the looks too.) Talent she definitely has, in abundance, an assertion we hope you might endeavor to verify by granting Blue Vistas an audition.”

DOMINIQUE EADE
Poetic and passionate, American vocalist, composer and improviser Dominique Eade blends musical virtuosity with a songwriter’s straightforward emotional sensibility, creating music that has garnered critical acclaim, inspired audiences, and served as a creative signpost for generations of singers.

Eade’s performances throughout the United States, Latin America and Europe include the Buenos Aires Jazz Festival, the Panama Jazz Festival, New York’s The Blue Note, The Five Spot and The Jazz Standard, D.C.’s Jazz Alley and Boston’s RegattaBar.
