Best-selling author Stephen Puleo will talk about his new book, The Great Abolitionist: Charles Sumner, at the Friends Annual Meeting in November. Mr. Puleo was the well-received Nashua Reads author in 2022, when he visited the library to discuss his book, Dark Tide: The Great Boston Molasses Flood of 1919. All five of his books have been Boston regional bestsellers.

Before the talk, during a brief business meeting, the Friends will review their activities of the past year, as well as take nominations for three Board positions.

The Great Abolitionist tells the story of Charles Sumner, one of the most influential non-presidents in American history. Where others preached compromise and moderation, Sumner denounced slavery’s evils to all who would listen and demanded that it be wiped out of existence. He blazed the trail on the country’s long, uneven, and ongoing journey toward becoming a more perfect union.
