Build Housing, Community and Income: ADU 101

Build Housing, Community and Income: ADU 101

Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity and Putney's Housing Task Force Present:

ADU 101 (Accessory Dwelling Units):
The basics on how you can build homes, community and income during these times of economic strain

Many have shared an interest in learning how to roll-up-your-sleeves and add additional housing in our region in an environmentally sensitive way. Often the quickest, most cost-effective way to do that is: a pre-owned site with existing buildings, water and sewage infrastructure.

Whether you feel you'd be ready to build this Fall or next year, please join us on Monday, May 12 at 6:30 PM at the Putney Fire Station so you can be part of this collaborative effort to help Vermonters build more housing and add monthly income to strained budgets.

We will have information on a variety of building/construction options, and feature:

> Furnace Brook Builders, with plans for small, Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU's) that can be built for an estimated 75K or less, using local lumber, where possible

> Brattleboro Area Affordable Housing, housing advocates with almost 20 years of grassroots, housing development in our region

> Town of Putney, so you can learn the step-by-step process necessary to build
(Still Waiting on Confirmation)

Then, on the following Monday, May 19 at 6:30 PM at the Putney Fire Station, we will focus on funding your project based on who you wish to serve with presentations by

> Brattleboro Area Affordable Housing, housing advocates building 4-5 units per year in collaboration with the Town of Brattleboro

> Vermont Home Improvement Program offering incentives and funding for home owners wishing to build housing with state funding

Vermont needs a variety of housing options. Over the next 5-years we are looking forward to working together, to build more.
So, invite a neighbor or two and head down to the Fire House to learn how we can build housing and community, together.

In the event links section, we've included some helpful resources and links to our presenters under 'exhibitors':

1. A survey to help us get an idea of what you would like to build
2. Vermont Homes for All ToolKit with information on building in your own backyard, or becoming a small, emerging developer
3. Award-winning Accessory Dwelling Unit plans from the New Hampshire Southwest Regional Planning Commission
4. More info about Furnace Brook Builders
5. More info about Brattleboro Area Affordable Housing
