Linda talks with James Steinberg, President Clinton's Deputy National Security Advisor, about the upcoming summit between Presidents Clinton and Yeltsin. Despite Russia's opposition to NATO expansion in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet republics, Steinberg says NATO is moving forward regardless, and the summit is an opportunity to build on that inevitability and strengthen cooperation between Russia and the US. He says Russia should have an increasing role in European mil itary and economic security, and that it's very much in Russia's best interests for democracy to succeed in many of these former Communist countries.
