Citing Behavior Concerns, Exeter High School Bans Dances Indefinitely

NHPR/Michael Brindley

Exeter High School has banned all regular dances effective immediately.

The Portsmouth Herald reports SAU 16 Superintendent Mike Morgan confirmed the indefinite hiatus for dances at Exeter High School on Wednesday.

Morgan says the ban was initiated following concerns regarding "inappropriate student behavior." Principal Jim Tremblay says there was no specific event that directly influenced the ban.

Morgan says student leaders were largely supportive of the decision.

Exeter officials say the school has stopped, canceled or considered canceling dances many times over the past several years due to sexually suggestive dancing by students.

Officials say junior and senior prom will be held as scheduled.
