Shea-Porter, Kuster Express Support For Extending Obamacare Enrollment Deadline

First District Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter says she supports extending the open enrollment period to sign up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.

Shea-Porter says it’s important people have the time they need to enroll after what she describes as a deplorable roll out of the health insurance exchanges.

“If they are delayed a few weeks because they couldn’t get online, yes. But I’m not for delaying the individual mandate for a year or anything like that. Just kind of extending the enrollment period for a few weeks.”

U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen sent a letter to federal health officials last week asking for an extension beyond the March 31st deadline.

Second District Congresswoman Ann McLane Kuster has also said she would support extending the deadline.

Shea-Porter says there’s no excuse for the delays people have experienced on the website healthcare.gov, and she expects the issues to be addressed as soon as possible.

Also last week, U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte requested data on how many New Hampshire residents have been able to successfully enroll in a health insurance plan online.
