New Hampshire health officials announced the first human case of West Nile Virus this season has been detected in an adult from Chesterfield.
Vector Borne Disease Surveillance Coordinator Whitney Howe says August and September tend to be active months for these types of mosquito-borne viruses.
“A human infection is not necessarily surprising. You know, it is the first of the year that we are seeing so we do want to remind people that they need to continue to take their precautions against mosquito bites.”
She says the person who was infected has recovered.
This is the first human case of West Nile Virus since August of last year, and the sixth since the virus was first detected in New Hampshire in 2000.
So far this year, the virus has also been detected in eight mosquito batches in southern New Hampshire communities.
There have also been 12 batches of mosquitoes to test positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis, EEE.
