State Police To Heighten Enforcement During July 4 Weekend

Roger Wood

Public safety officials in Northern New England are urging caution on the highways and waterways during the holiday weekend.

State Police and Marine Safety officials converged on Dover Point to emphasize their commitment to safe driving and boating, starting with the July 4th holiday.

New Hampshire State Police Colonel Robert Quinn says that enforcement will be increased in three states.

“Please, don't drive on the roadways impaired. Watch your speed and pay attention. Because if you don't, state troopers will be out in full force from the Massachusetts State Police, New Hampshire State Police, and Maine State Police.”

Quinn said that impairment by drugs or alcohol, speeding and distraction are the three major causes of deadly accidents.

And Quinn said that police are using data they have collected to strategically patrol high risk areas, as well as sobriety checkpoints in an effort to keep highway deaths down.
