House Overrides Governor's Veto of Redistricting Plan

The Republican-controlled New Hampshire House has overridden Democratic Governor John Lynch's veto of the House redistricting plan.

The House voted 246-112 Wednesday to send the bill to the Senate which traditionally leaves it to the House to come up with its own plan.

Districts must be redrawn to adjust for population changes over the past decade.

House Speaker Bill O’Brien says more people will get direct representation.

“It’s worked the way it’s supposed to work and we’re really appreciative of the result as should the people of NH because we’re going from 103 state rep districts to almost double that so we’re really happy with this result," said O'Brien.

But Governor Lynch says 62 towns and wards deserved their own seats but did not get one.

“Communities should have their own elected representatives, that wards should have their own representative, so I continue to believe that there are constitutional problems with this bill,” said Lynch.

Opponents said if the map isn't changed, the issue will wind up in court.
