Special Programming: Remembering Two Musical Greats
Tune into NHPR this Sunday evening at 6 p.m. for a special program from New York Public Radio.
“John Prine and Bill Withers, In Their Own Words” will feature the words and music of two legendary artists.
Soul and R&B singer Bill Withers passed away March 30 in Los Angeles, from heart complications. The three-time GRAMMY® Award winner and member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is best known for iconic tunes “Lean On Me”, “Ain’t No Sunshine”, and “Lovely Day.”
Country and folk singer and songwriter John Prine died of complications from COVID-19 on April 7. In a career spanning decades, Prine won two GRAMMY Awards and a GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2019, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
For the special, Death, Sex & Money host Anna Sale will share past conversations with Withers and Prine – conversations that incorporate humor, wisdom, beauty and music. The special will air Sunday, April 19, at 6 p.m. on NHPR, in place of “To The Best of Our Knowledge.”
