Rockingham Choral Performs "Gloria"

Rockingham Choral Performs "Gloria"

The Rockingham Choral Society will perform their winter concert “Gloria” on Saturday, December 6 at Exeter High School and Sunday, December 7 at Christ Church in Exeter, NH. Both performances will take place at 3:00 p.m.

Since 1957, the Rockingham Choral Society has expanded and enhanced cultural experiences by performing choral masterpieces and adhering to the highest musical standards. The Choral Society is comprised of over 100 members under the direction of Jason Throne.

“The winter concert program celebrates the beauty and vitality of choral music through works that are both powerful and deeply expressive,” said Throne. “With brass and organ joining the chorus, and additional works that capture the quiet majesty of the winter season, this concert invites listeners to share in a moment of warmth, reflection and joy through music.”

Featured selections include John Rutter’s “Gloria,” Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Bogoroditse Devo,” and Dan Forrest’s radiant arrangement of “Angels We Have Heard on High,” alongside the world premiere of “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel,” commissioned by the Rockingham Choral Society and arranged by Dr. Joseph Eckman.

In addition to the Rockingham Choral Society’s collaborative pianist Jeannie F. Goodwin, the chorus will be joined by guest pianist Deb Bolling of Exeter, organist Adam Peithmann and the Portsmouth Brass Quintet.

The Portsmouth Brass Quintet is comprised of key brass players from the Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra. The ensemble was founded by Adam Gallant in the fall of 2016 and is dedicated to performing serious brass chamber music at the highest level.

Tickets are $18 in advance or $20 at the door. Children under six are always admitted at no charge, but must have a space reserved for them in advance through rockinghamchoral.org.

Any high school student with a valid ID will be admitted to the December 6 performance at no charge. The chorus has also distributed 100 complimentary tickets for the Saturday performance to senior centers in Rockingham County.

Performances regularly sell out, and day-of tickets are subject to availability. Advance purchase online is strongly encouraged.
