Ceremony Marks Official Opening Of Berlin Prison

A ceremony is being held to officially open the new federal prison in Berlin, N.H.

The prison is expected to create about 340 local jobs and provide a $40 million economic boost to the region.

The facility is housing medium and minimum security inmates and can hold up to 1,700. Federal Bureau of prison officials have said many of them will be serving sentences for drug- and firearms-related crimes.

The ceremony is being held Friday morning.
