Kuster To House GOP: Withdraw 'Reckless' Health Care Reform Bill

New Hampshire Congresswoman Annie Kuster is calling on Republican House leaders to withdraw their health care reform bill.

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates the bill would increase the number of people without insurance by 14 million in the first year, and 24 million by 2026.

Speaking to NHPR's Morning Edition, Kuster said she's not surprised White House officials are disputing the figures released Monday.

“They don’t want to hear the bad news, but just add it all up,” she said. “This is why they brought this out under the cover of darkness, why we haven’t been able to review the bill in detail, why we’re not having hearings. They had one hearing literally all night long and then voted along party lines.”

The CBO also estimates the bill would reduce the federal by deficit by $337 billion dollars over the next decade.

Kuster says she's ready to work with Republican colleagues to find ways to fix the Affordable Care Act.
