Medical Marijuana Bill Heard In House

A proposal to legalize medical marijuana went before a house committee today.  Lead Sponsor, Exeter Democrat Donna Schlachman promoted the plan as one that has profited from experiences -- good and bad -- of medical marijuana laws passed in other states.

"You cannot physician shop, and just start getting multiple prescriptions. You have to be a qualifying patient, and there is very strict definition of what qualifies you for this prescription._

Under the bill only people suffering from cancer, glaucoma, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, ALS,  muscular dystrophy, Crohn’s disease, Alzheimer’s, or MS could use marijuana medically.  Governor Maggie Hassan says she would sign a tightly controlled medical marijuana bill if it reaches her desk. Former Governor John Lynch twice vetoed bill to allow medical marijuana; both times he cited concerns of law enforcement, who also oppose this bill.
