The Community Players of Concord is presenting an exciting 8-week class in Meisner Technique, to be taught by Travis Laughlin. This class is for actors looking to develop their skills, improve their stage presence, and personalize their character work. Sessions are scheduled as follows and will be held at the Players Studio at 435 Josiah Bartlett Road, Concord:
Session 1: February 21-March 14, Saturdays 2pm-5pm
Session 2: March 21-April 11, Saturdays 2pm-5pm
The first session will cover exercises in repetition and imagination, which form the foundation of the technique. The second session will cover applications to character work and scene study. By the end of this class, members will have a clear understanding of Meisner technique and how to draw on it for future roles. This class is open to both beginning and experienced actors. It is possible to register for one of the two sessions.
Sanford Meisner developed his approach to acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City starting in the 1930s and was closely associated with Stella Adler, Lee Strasberg, and other pedagogues seeking to produce realistic theatrical performance. Meisner's approach includes exercises in relaxation, emotional preparation, imagination, and interpersonal connection, and emphasizes improvisation at all levels.
Travis Laughlin studied Meisner technique at Playhouse West in North Hollywood with teacher Robert Carnegie, who worked closely with Sanford Meisner for many years. (www.playhousewest.com/history). Travis has appeared on the shows Wild West Chronicles (2022), Tall Tales of Jim Bridger (2024), and in the films Love's Playlist (2023) and the Christmas Ticket (2025). In addition to his Meisner training, he has studied at Shakespeare and Company, Leslie Kahn and Company, and iO Theater.
