Three term New York governor Mario Cuomo died yesterday of heart failure, just after his son, Andrew, began his second terms as that state’s chief executive.
Mario Cuomo, a Democrat, was the son of Italian immigrants and grew up in Queens. He is remembered for his oratorical skills and his dedication to progressive politics.
He cemented his spot as a national leader for the Democratic party after his 1984 keynote address at the Democratic National Convention.
