Eugene Mirman is a writer, stand-up comedian, the voice of Gene on Fox’s animated series Bob’s Burgers, Neil Degrasse Tyson’s partner in crime on the show Star Talk Radio, creator of the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival and proprietor of the post-structural online store Flotsam.

Virginia spoke to Eugene about growing up with a love of comedy, and he mentioned doing his first stand-up in a talent show in high school.

Things have changed a lot since Eugene majored in comedy at Hampshire College, and while he admits getting people to see the work  is a problem that constantly needs to be solved, there are ever evolving ways to reach an audience.

You can catch him this Friday at 3S Artspace in Portsmouth. He’s also bringing the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival to Boston at the Brattle and Schubert Theaters from April 17th – 19th
