Six New Hampshire governors gathered at the State House on Monday. As NHPR's Josh Rogers reports, the Governors were there to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the State House.
Governor Chris Sununu joined his father John H. Sununu, Maggie Hassan, Jeanne Shaheen, Steve Merrill and Craig Benson. All praised the openness of government here and swapped State House memories.
The elder Sununu recalled a visit by President Ronald Reagan. Maggie Hassan remembered passing same-sex marriage legislation. Craig Benson recalled a visit by a sick child.
"I said to him, do you want to see what real governors do? He said sure, 'I'd love to do that.' So I took him back, I had some Nerf golf balls and a golf club, and we had a hallway, and so we started hitting golf balls down to the other end of the hallway and he had the best time of his life. And I was thinking no other place could this happen."
The celebration continues all week, and will include an old home day for past and present lawmakers.
