The first of two vaccination clinics for people potentially exposed to hepatitis A was held at Hopkinton High School Friday.
The Friday clinic runs until 8 tonight.
Even the state’s Public Health Director Dr. Jose Montero isn’t immune from having to receive a vaccination shot.
“It was painless. It was quite quick. And I know that I don’t like needles. It’s a well-known fact,” Montero said.
He ate recently at the Covered Bridge Restaurant in Contoocook, where state health officials say a bartender was diagnosed with hepatitis A.
The bartender also served people at the local American Legion.
It’s estimated 600 to 1000 people were exposed.
Director of the state’s Emergency Services Unit Rick Cricenti says two thousand vaccinations were on hand for the first day.
“We’re expecting maybe around 400. But we always want to anticipate worst case scenario.”
The health department urges anyone who ate or drank at the establishments between July 20th and August 3rd to get the shot.
Saturday’s clinic runs from 9 to 2.
