Pollinator Workshop

Pollinator Workshop

** You must reserve your spot(s), and pay in advance **

Our pollinators are on the decline, and we all need to be concerned. One out of every three bites of food we eat, and over 80% of all plants, require the work of a pollinator. A lack of pollinators has reduced songbird populations, and negatively impacts biodiversity everywhere. Fortunately, there is something you can do to help!
This is a hands-on workshop for gardeners, homeowners, and landowners!

Participants will learn the following:
* Who are the pollinators?
* Why do they need our help?
* What is causing their decline?
* The best host plants and nectar sources to attract pollinators.
* How to provide shelter and water.
* Proper habitats, as seen in our garden/yard/meadow landscapes
* How to enhance your yard or garden to attract pollinators
* Techniques for establishing a meadow
* How to start native plants from seed

You’ll receive a Pollinator Packet filled with plant and resource lists, educational materials, and pollinator seeds to get you started!

Over the past 25+ years, we have steadily converted a portion of Petals in the Pines’ 7.5 acres of woodland to pollinator habitat. Once completely surrounded by trees, now we are in the midst of open spaces filled with flowers and features that attract bees, butterflies, moths, and many bird species.
In 2023 we were certified as a Pollinator Friendly Garden by the UNH/ME Cooperative Extension (https://extension.umaine.edu/.../pollinator-garden.../). We are also "On the Map" with Homegrown National Park (https://www.homegrownnationalpark.org/) and a certified Garden for Wildlife with the National Wildlife Federation (https://www.nwf.org/garden).

The Pollinator Workshop will be held in our Arbor Day Foundation-certified Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom. Come prepared for some uneven terrain and prolonged standing. Please dress for the weather, wear good walking shoes, and bring a water bottle. If applying bug spray here, please do so in our parking area, away from the pollinators. Please leave pets at home.

Workshop Fee: $25 per person, $15 for each additional family member including kids age 12 and up. One Pollinator Packet per family. Details at https://petalsinthepines.com/pollinator-workshops
