Peace and Justice Conversations: Three Paths to Healing Our Divides

Peace and Justice Conversations: Three Paths to Healing Our Divides

In a time when it feels like we're more divided than ever, tonight we're exploring a different path forward. Our three speakers have chosen to step into the spaces where division lives—not to win arguments, but to rebuild connection and community. They work in different arenas but share a commitment to what Václav Havel called 'the power of the powerless'—the quiet revolutionary act of choosing hope and human connection over despair and isolation.
Nancy Jo Chabot works in the field of history, and lives in Hopkinton, NH. She serves on the board of the Compassionate Listening Project, and along with friends Scott and Joel, has participated in the CLP’s Journey to Israel & Palestine. Much of her energy is devoted to a new organization, Not In My Name - NH, and she particularly enjoys working on NIMN’s film screening team. She is also a member of Braver Angels, and attended their last national conference, as well as local NH Alliance events.
Joel Berman is a former family physician who lives in Concord NH. Since his retirement in 2013, he has been drawn to organizations dedicated to healing the ideological divides that are threatening the survival of our democratic republic. As a certified facilitator of The Compassionate Listening Project, he has led and participated in journeys of citizen diplomacy to Israel and Palestine as well as to Alabama. He is currently the blue co-chair of the New Hampshire Alliance of Braver Angels.
Scott Dickman, now retired, lives in Concord, NH. He participated in The Compassionate Listening Project (TCLP) Journey to Israel & Palestine in 2016 and the TCLP Journey to Alabama in 2020. He received his TCLP Facilitation Certification in 2023 and currently serves on the board of TCLP. Scott previously served on the New Hampshire Board of Building a Culture of Peace and is currently on the board of New Hampshire Peace Action and the Coordinating Committee of Not In My Name – NH. He is also a member of Braver Angels and attended the 2024 national conference.
