Mangrove” is a new film by “12 Years a Slave” director Steve McQueen. It’s the first in his new film series Small Axe.

The films are based on recent British history and meant to show the experience of Black people living in London.

The movie depicts the landmark 1971 trial that exposed anti-Black racism within London’s Metropolitan Police. It’s been called a “powerful indictment of institutional racism.”
