Squirrels Stash Nuts For The Winter In Pa. Couple's Car

RACHEL MARTIN, HOST:

Good morning. I'm Rachel Martin. Squirrels are going to squirrel. Chris and Holly Persic learned the hard way when they found 200 walnuts hidden in the hood of their car. The whole engine was covered in nuts and mossy grass. Chris says, it looked like they were storing up for the next three winters.

Remarkably, other than just cleaning out the car, which was no small task, there wasn't any serious damage. But Chris offers this PSA - if you park outside, do yourself a favor and check under the hood every once in a while. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
