Muslim leaders from across Tennessee gathered last night to condemn the killing of four Marines at a military recruiting center and another U.S. military site in Chattanooga.
Shooting suspect Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez has been identified as a Muslim. They called Abdulazeez a criminal and said that although he may be identified as a Muslim, the faith condemns such crimes in every form and fashion.
Today, the world’s 1.5 billion Muslims gathered to celebrate the first day of Eid al-Fitr. The three-day festival marks the end of Ramadan, the month-long period of reflection and daytime fasting.
For followers of Islam, the holy month is only one part of a spiritual life that has at its centerpiece the daily call to prayer known as the Adhan. David C. Barnett of Here & Now contributor WCPN in Cleveland reports.
