When you support NHPR, you ensure that everyone in New Hampshire has access to the same quality programming. And this year, the federal CARES Act included tax incentives that provide additional reasons to make a gift before December 31, 2020.
Here’s how you can support the journalism you rely on:
Become a sustaining member: When you set up an automatic monthly gift, you provide vital ongoing support for NHPR. You can give via your bank account or with a credit or debit card. You’ll get to choose an annual thank you gift, be entered into drawings throughout the year, and get access to a “pledge free stream” during on-air fund drives. Become a sustainer here.
Make a cash gift via check, credit card, or through a donor-advised fund. You can give online or send a check to NHPR, PO Box 9645, Manchester, NH 03108-9645.
Have your company match your donation: Click here for a list of corporations that currently have corporate matching gift programs. Check with your employer for the appropriate form or to find out if they will make a matching gift. NHPR is also part of the Combined Federal Campaign, which allows federal employees to contribute to us via their federal work places.
Donate appreciated stock or mutual fund shares, which enables you to avoid paying capital gains on the increased value of the shares. And if you itemize deductions and have held the stock for more than a year, you can take a charitable deduction for the fair market value on the day you donate it.
Make a qualified charitable distribution from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) if you are age 70½ or older. These funds are then excluded from your gross income giving you tax benefits, even if you take the standard deduction. Funds must come directly from your IRA account to the nonprofit, so you will need to contact your fund management company to initiate the gift. You can give to one or more charities, as long as the total does not exceed $100,000 each year. (Note that the age at which you are required to start taking minimum distributions from your IRA has changed to age 72, instead of age 70½.)
Donate your car to NHPR: Your vehicle will be picked up for free and you will receive a tax deduction if you itemize. Call 855-2PRADIO (855-277-2346) to donate today, or click here to learn more. You can donate all types of vehicles: cars, trucks, motorcycles, trailers, boats, and more.
Finally, by including a gift to NHPR in your estate plan, you can ensure future generations will have access to well-researched, factual news – without making a cash outlay today. You can include NHPR as a beneficiary in your will or trust, or on your individual retirement account or life insurance policy. You also become a member of NHPR’s Walter Petersen Society – which will give you an inside view of NHPR initiatives, in addition to inspiring others to support NHPR.
