Lebanon Encourages Residents to Kick Their Plastic Habit

The Lebanon landfill is asking local residents to take a “Refill NOT Landfill” pledge for the month of April, committing to avoid disposable water bottles, take-out containers and other common single-use products.

Landfill space in New England is limited, said Solid Waste Manager Marc Morgan, and we need to start rethinking our attitude around trash.

"We spend a lot of time focused on recycling and making sure people are recycling correctly,” he said. “If we generate less waste in the first place, that has an even greater impact."

People often think disposable coffee cups can be recycled, he said, but that’s not the case. And though plastic water bottles are technically recyclable, the majority end up in the trash.
