N.H. Art Association artist Michelle Peterson on exhibit at Concord Chamber of Commerce
Threads and Where They Lead
Concord, New Hampshire – On display at the Concord Chamber of Commerce is an exhibit of paintings from New Hampshire artist Michelle Peterson. Peterson received her BFA from New Hampshire Institute of Art in 2011 and her MFA from the institute of Art and Design at New England College in 2020. This multidisciplinary artist has taken an innovative and captivating approach to uncovering what connects us through her paintings of figures interacting with string. In the artwork string is depicted in patterns and shapes that reference the playground pastime of cat’s cradle. “By using symbols such as a water bottle, rocks, birds and hands interspersed and oriented around visible and invisible strings, I begin to map a personal psychogeography,” says Peterson. Her work draws inspiration from Carl Jung’s understanding of archetypes and symbols in relation to the conscious and unconscious mind. Peterson’s work builds a metaphysical architecture that is held together by the way that the figures are interacting with string in the paintings. Through her art, Peterson aims to highlight the larger patterns and narratives that shape our existence.
With her thought-provoking and visually stunning artwork, Michelle Peterson continues to offer a fresh perspective on the threads that bind us all. Her unique style of visual storytelling has garnered attention and admiration from both the art community and the general public alike. Peterson’s work has been displayed at galleries around New England and beyond. The work can be viewed until July 7th.
