The 19-piece Compaq Big Band is thrilled to return to Milford High School for a second straight year with an exciting night of ‘All That Jazz’ on Saturday April 1st. The stars of the show will be opening for us when MHS’ West Street Beat jazz vocal group and the MHS Jazz Band take the stage - the music runs from 7:30pm to 9:30pm.
Tickets are just $10 for Adults, and only $5 for Seniors and Students. All admission is walk-in – no online presales. Doors open 7:00pm, and all seating is General Admission. There’ll be a free buffet assortment of hors d'oeuvres from ‘Windows on West Street’ (MHS’ culinary school), ‘mocktails’, and soft drinks. You can dance or listen the night away, or do a little of both!
Milford High School is located at 100 West Street, Milford, New Hampshire – use the MHS “Windows on West Street’ entrance.
This great event is presented by the Spartan Music Boosters, who work tirelessly year-round to support the MHS’ Marching Spartans, West Street Beat, Jazz Band, Concert Band and Chorus! All profits from tickets and a raffle that evening go to scholarships, uniforms, t-shirts, and much more.
Our set at ‘All That Jazz’ will feature the extraordinary Marina Evans, on vocals, channelin’ the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Diane Schuur, Natalie Cole, Tierney Sutton, and more. And, as if THAT’S not enough, the band will sprinkle in a few instrumental features from greats such as Buddy Rich, Tom Kubis, and Chris Walden.
Beginning her career as a teenager performing the Great American Songbook in a jazz duo, Marina Evans found her voice as a songwriter while in college in New York City. Teaching herself folk guitar and mixing it with the jazz inflections she had honed in her voice – an aspect of her sound she still preserves today as a big band vocalist – led to a unique blend of genres that she has refined over countless hours on the road, the stage, and in the studio. Marina has written and released 4 original EPs and a full-length album. In writing, recording, and touring, she has traveled across the United States, to London, and to Italy, where she collaborates with Italian artists in producing her work.
