What's Behind The Baltimore Riots
Tufts University historian Peniel Joseph tells Here & Now’s Robin Young that we’re missing the deeper historical roots of what’s behind the rioting in Baltimore and other U.S. cities recently, and that two generations of African-Americans have been shaped by a criminal justice system that “criminalizes black people en masse.” He makes his point as the 50th anniversary of the 1965 Watts riots in Los Angeles approaches this summer.
