A Manchester man who heads a civil engineering firm says he remembers the older brother of the two marathon bombing suspects.
Tamerlan Tsarnaev was a teenage boxer new to the United States when Frank Wells says he met him.
“Well, I hadn’t thought about him a bit until I heard that one of the suspects was a Golden Gloves boxer. And when they said that he had actually won the tournament, I believe it was in 2004, I recalled him immediately.”
Wells, the senior VP of Hoyle, Tanner and Associates in Manchester, was the New Hampshire Chief Official for USA Boxing that day in Lowell nine years ago.
“And when the guy came in I remember him as being very polite, soft spoken, I had to ask him how to spell his names a couple of times because I couldn’t quite get it…”
The elder Tsarnaev brother stood out to Wells because he won all eight of his bouts that night, he mentioned an interest in engineering and even played classical piano.
Tamerlan Tsarnaev, also known as Suspect # 1 in connection with the marathon bombings, was killed in the early hours of a manhunt Friday.
