Will Gitmo Ever Close?

The prison facility at Guantanamo Bay Cuba remains open and active with 122 prisoners. That’s despite President Obama’s repeated campaign promises to close the facility “early” in his presidency.

NPR National Security Correspondent David Welna speaks with Here & Now’s Robin Young about why the facility is still open and how the debate hinges on certain classifications of prisoners who currently cannot be moved and cannot be tried in court.
