The China Challenge

As the world’s second largest economy and the largest foreign holder of American debt, China’s future is intertwined with ours -- even as we differ on many issues, such as trade and human rights. These differences made for intense campaign fodder in the Presidential race, with tough talk from candidates about the US-China relationship.  Meanwhile, China is undergoing its own change in leadership. Today we look at the complicated relationship between China and the US.


Lawrence C. Reardon - Associate Professor of Political Science and Chair of the Department of Political Science at UNH. He specializes in Chinese domestic and foreign politics, international relations, and international political economy.  

Lu Yan - Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of New Hampshire. Yan, a native of Shanghai, specializes in modern Chinese history, particularly the transformation of Chinese culture and society, as well as Chinese-Japanese relations.
