Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker announced his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination on July 13, 2015. He suspended his campaign on September 21, 2015.
Walker, who was first elected governor in 2010, positioned himself as a conservative politician who has found success in a left-leaning state. His tenure in office has been marked by frequent clashes with labor unions, including limiting collective bargaining rights for most public workers, signing right-to-work legislation, and increasing health care contributions from union employees.
Opposition from unions and their backers resulted in an effort to oust Walker from office in a recall election, which he won comfortably.
Before before being elected governor, Walker served 8 years as Milwaukee County Executive, and nearly a decade in the Wisconsin Legislature.
